2007-2008
The
Regional Spelling Bee, recently held in
Springfield
on March 8th,
was a very entertaining and competitive event, lasting 19 rounds, featuring 32
contestants from 8 counties. All six
of the winners advancing from the JacksonvilleBee competed very strongly, and
three of the six qualify to return next year.
Of particular interest were strong performances by Peyton Tosh (4th
place), a home-schooled 8th grader from
Jacksonville
and Parker Carls
(8th), a 4th grader from
Beardstown
Christian
Academy
.
Tied for 10th place was C.J. Beckwith from Turner Jr. High;
Jordan Cox and Austin Hunter from Turner and Abby Lashmett, a 5th
grader from
Winchester
Grade School
, tied for 14th
place. The winner of the Regional
Bee and our area representative to the National Spelling Bee was Ashwin Nair, an
8th grader attending Franklin Middle School in Springfield.
